Christmas Mulled Wine Recipe

Mulled wine is fantastic!  Of course not all of us can drink it, and a large amount of wine isn’t recommended for any diabetic, however a small glass is usually permissible around Christmas time.

Sugar warning!  This recipe does call for sugar (it’s hard to put a substitute in mulled wine), so please be sure you’re careful when enjoying.


  • 1 bottle of red wine
  • ½ cup of granulated sugar
  • splenda or sugar-free substitute (equivalent to ½ cup of sugar)
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 sliced lemon
  • 2 sliced oranges
  • 2 sliced apples
  • grated nutmeg (1 shake per glass)


  1. Heat all ingredients (except oranges and apples) to near boiling.
  2. Add 1 pint of water
  3. Pour over sliced oranges and apple rounds.
  4. Serve hot! (but not so hot that you break your wine glass)

Best served hot, with a smile, and with good friends or family.  Enjoy!
