Microwave Potato Chips

To be honest, I haven’t had chips in years but recall fondly how I loved to toss a few handfuls on a plate with a nice juicy hamburger.. okay I’ve done it again.. mouth is watering.

Andy submitted this recipe last week and claims he’ll never buy another bag of potato chips again.. ever!  Since this is a nice and easy recipe, and only takes approximately 35 minutes, you can easily make enough for a week (or a party).

Microwave Potato Chips

Rating: 41

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 25 minutes

Total Time: 35 minutes

Serving Size: 4-6

  • 4 large potatoes (Yellow Gold or Yukon Gold is great but Russet, White, or Red is great too)
  • Your preference in seasoning (such as garlic powder, seasoning salt, cayenne pepper, dried dill weed)
  • Vegetable Oil

  1. Slice washed raw potato 1/16" or thinner (slicing across the potato) with skin.
  2. Place the potato slices in a large mixing bowl, sprinkle with salt (to taste and if desired), add cold water and let sit for 10 minutes. Afterwards, place potato slices onto paper towels and pat dry.
  3. Rub vegetable oil on microwavable tray (bacon trays work best, but if you're in a pinch then try a microwavable casserole dish), then add the first batch of potato slices flat in a single layer (do not overlap or stack). Season to taste.
  4. Cover with tray cover or paper towels if you don't have a tray cover.
  5. Microwave on High for 5 to 5 1/2 minutes (or until light brown and slightly curling).
  6. Repeat steps for second and additional batches however you only need to rub the vegetable oil the on the tray for the first batch (all additional batches will not require more vegetable oil).

Some recommend seasoning with granulated garlic powder and parsley.  Also recommended is cracked black pepper and sea salt.
